- For each household the Year, Census Reference (Class, Piece Number and Folio) and Place of Enumeration are given, followed on successive lines by the Name, Relationship to the Head of the Household, Condition, Age, Occupation and Place of Birth for each member of the family.
- The transcriptions include some for related families or households where a family member was visiting or boarding.
- For lodging houses and institutions usually only the names of individuals of interest have been transcribed.
- The names, ages and place of birth of servants have generally been omitted.
- The entries are sorted by Year, Piece Number and Folio
- Abbreviations: Reln = Relationship to Head of Household, Cond = Condition
- In the 1841 Census the ages of adults were usually rounded down to the nearest five years, the relationship to the head of the household and condition were not recorded and the place of birth was limited to the following:
Y = born in the county of current residence [I have given the Chapman code]
N = born elsewhere in England or Wales
S = born in Scotland
I = born in Ireland
F = born abroad
- Standard Chapman codes have been used for County or Country abbreviations.
- Some of the census enumerator's books were poorly legible and there may be a few errors.
